Embedded systems designer

I am a senior research engineer in the Applied Technologies group where I contribute a wide range of skills in hardware and software development. I humorously call myself a ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ but in reality, applying technology requires an ability to adapt and adjust research methods to suit the needs of each customer situation.

My current work includes Very High-Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL), and its application in high speed signal processing in audio and software defined radio. The data rates and timing requirements mean that FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays) are one of few methods available for the real time processing of radio signals.

My work is made more enjoyable because of the very talented people from whom I have learnt much and have the privilege of working with every day. I get a lot of satisfaction from being part of a team of professionals creating hardware and software solutions that contribute to New Zealand's innovation sector.
